Almost There: San Mateo On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 6-5 Win
|
The San Mateo Dirty Reds moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting Pittsburgh Kingfishers at Lang Park by a score of 6-5. Dirty Reds catcher Ambrose Watkins was named player of the game after he went 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win gives the Dirty Reds a - advantage in the best-of- Silver League Championship.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the eighth, until Watkins delivered big-time for San Mateo, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Wes Gilmore. The game-changing hit put the Dirty Reds on top, 6-5.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said San Mateo manager Dean Ashley.
