The Charleston Battery went into extra innings against the Pittsburgh Kingfishers but ultimately moved to within one game of the Round 2 today.
The Battery downed the Kingfishers at Pittsburgh Grounds by a score of 3-2. Even as his squad took the loss, Pittsburgh right-hander Jason Starkey was named player of the game for a solid outing in which he threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Battery a - advantage in the best-of- Round 1.
Charleston relied on the hitting of Anson Darrah to pick up the win. The first baseman ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the 11th inning to put the Battery on top, 3-2. For the game, Darrah had 1 triple and 1 single in 2 at-bats.
"It's a big deal," Darrah said of the win. "If we had gone to 0- , we're pretty much out of it."
