Thrice as Nice: Brooklyn On Verge of Sweep after Walk-off Win
|
An all-important Game of the Third League Championship went into extra innings at Ebbetts Field, with the Brooklyn Dodgers eventually emerging on top. Brooklyn has Tony Wonder to thank, after the right fielder was 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 in the 9-8 victory. The Dodgers are now one game away from the Round 2, holding a - lead in the best-of- series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Brooklyn designated hitter Bill Chaundler, facing Rafael Herrera, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Dodgers the 9-8 win.
Wonder said afterward that he was "glad the fans were treated to a good ballgame."
