Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 4-3 Win
|
Despite a great performance by Echo Park starter Jordan Coffey, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Lakers by the score of 4-3 at LA Forum today. Coffey threw 5 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors, but could not prevent the Rainbow Mermaids from moving one game closer to the Round 2. Northern Virginia now leads the Round 1 - .
Northern Virginia used the clutch hitting of Mario Castillo to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Rainbow Mermaids the lead, 3-0. For the game, Castillo had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"This was a good win," said Castillo.
