Shuckers Prevail, 3-1, Over Springfield
|
Biloxi overcame a superlative game from Zhi-qiang Ku to beat Springfield, 3-1. The Springfield pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Fred Jerger was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. At 44-37, the Shuckers find themselves in 4th place in the Premier AA.
Biloxi used the timely hitting of Joël Pesci to capture the win. The shortstop socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Shuckers ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Pesci told the Biloxi Gazette.
