Akron Blimps starter Lance Mascola was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 3-2. In 7 innings, Mascola surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Akron improves to 47-30 with the win. They lead their division by 2˝ games.
The Fighting Imps had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blimps going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Cristo Correa Jr. came to the plate. Correa Jr. hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 fastball from Ithaca hurler Glenn Underwood. It was Correa Jr.'s 12th home run of the year.
Ithaca manager Lou Boone said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
