Springfield catcher Junior O'Day was instrumental in his team's 5-2 win over the Olympia Ogres. O'Day went 3-4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Shooters. António Arellano got the win, improving to 4-5. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 4. The save was credited to Georges Cormier, his 4th.
The Shooters got a lift from right fielder Sherman Kline who had a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fifth inning off Al Poe. It was his 28th walk of the season and put Springfield in front, 2-1.
"Feels good to get the job done," O'Day said after the game.
The Ogres, at 28-45, have lost 4 straight games.
