Shooters Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Fighting Imps
|
The Shooters faced a stiff challenge from Ithaca pitcher John Fleming, but persevered to claim a win at Imps Park. The final score was 4-2. Fleming went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Hamilton Franklin sewed up the save, his 5th. Springfield has now won 3 straight, while the Fighting Imps have lost 3 in a row.
Springfield used the clutch hitting of Gerald Johnston to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Shooters the lead, 4-2. For the game, Johnston had 1 single and 1 double in 5 at-bats.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Johnston told the Springfield Bulletin.
