Continentals Top Blimps, 6-4
|
It was a good time at Chesapeake Grounds, where fans came to watch the Akron Blimps and Chesapeake Continentals get after it.
The Chesapeake Continentals overcame a good performance by Akron center fielder Charlie Cummings to knock off Akron, 6-4, at Chesapeake Grounds. Cummings went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win was Riccardo Muijlwijk's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Lance Mascola took the loss for Akron. Picking up the save was José Escalante, his 16th.
Chesapeake designated hitter Gustavo Zamora contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 51st hit of the season and put the Continentals ahead, 6-3.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Zamora told the Chesapeake Bulletin. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
Chesapeake is now 35-33.
