Shuckers Squelch Continentals Offense in Shutout Win
|
Chesapeake got a terrific performance from pitcher Nick Cole, but it wasn't enough to beat the Biloxi Shuckers. Biloxi won the The Pizza Oven contest, 6-0. Cole was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Morgan Novak picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Nick Cole was tagged with the loss. Félix Fernández nailed down his 1st save.
Biloxi shortstop Joël Pesci contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a changeup into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 73rd hit of the season and put the Shuckers ahead, 3-0.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Pesci said after the game.
The Shuckers, at 34-31, sit in 5th place in the Premier AA.
