Warheads Come Back Late to Clip Cougars
|
Valley View got a terrific performance from pitcher William Averett, but it wasn't enough to beat the Amarillo Warheads. Amarillo won the Ballpark of Henderson contest, 5-4. Averett was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. At 34-46, the Warheads are currently 9th in the Silver R.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Amarillo trailing 4-1, Bill Stickells hit a fastball from Ray Armstrong for a grand slam home run, giving the Warheads the walk-off win.
"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Stickells. "But I have better dreams after a win."
