Cleveland got a strong outing from Yan van der Meijden as the Browns defeated the Portland Evergreens, 4-2, at Factory of Sadness. The defending champion Browns are off to a horrible start to the season, notching only their 5th win in 15 games.

Chicago, Illinois-born Jhett Larson came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded and the Browns trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run double to right to put Cleveland on top.

"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," van der Meijden crowed after the game.
