Blalock 3-3, Fire Move to 26-15
|
With right fielder Will Blalock leading the charge, the Franklin Fire defeated the Quebec City Baby Blues, 7-2, at Lawmen Ballpark. Blalock was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. John Ellis earned the win to go to 4-2. He allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. The second-place Fire have won 5 consecutive games.
Felipe Tovar had a big 2-run single for the Fire in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Franklin leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Gavriil Wolfson and stroked the single to left. It was his 55th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fire ahead, 3-0.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Franklin manager Mark Davis.
