Rams Solve Shockers, 4-3
|
Ladue starter Jim Steel had a strong outing against the Surprise Shockers at Ballpark of Wellsville. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Steel, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing 3 earned runs. Helge Zharuev got credit for the save for Ladue. It was his 1st of the year.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Rams sent teenager Clark Curtis to the plate against Shockers hurler Cristián Torres. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-1 cutter to score 2.
"We found a way to get it done," Curtis said.
At 2-1, the Rams have played well so far.
