Snowpeople Knock Off Flanderses at The Igloo
|
Fans of the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Ellesmere Island win over the visiting Hudsonville Flanderses, 8-5. Ikaia Duncalf started for the home team against Lance Simmons. José García earned the coveted player of the game honors. Ikaia Duncalf was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 11 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts.
Ramón Rodríguez had a big 2-run double for the Snowpeople in the bottom of the second inning. With Ellesmere Island leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Lance Simmons and stroked the double to center. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Snowpeople ahead, 3-0.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Rodríguez told the Ellesmere Island Today.
