Ducks Nip Hounds, 2-1

The Long Island Ducks topped the Hicksville Hounds, 2-1, in USPL Rookie action at Ducks Park. The player of the game was Long Island pitcher Takayuki Shimizu. In 6 innings, Shimizu surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Jimmy McDonald was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 24 save opportunities.
Kenny Wright had a big run-scoring single for the Ducks in the bottom of the third inning. With Long Island leading 1-0 and a runner on 3rd, he got a fastball from Tim Stroud and stroked the single to center. It was his 86th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Ducks ahead, 2-0.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Hicksville skipper Wilber Moon.
The Ducks now have a record of 47-40.
