Indiana overcame a superlative game from Albert Zalazar to beat Montgomery, 4-3. The Montgomery pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Aurelio Pampoldi picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-1. Stu Sutherland was tagged with the loss. The 7th-place Lead Sox have won 5 consecutive games.
Had Rich Pope not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Pope hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lead Sox.
"I believe in our guys," said Indiana skipper Bill Callahan. "I like the energy they're playing with."
