Lead Sox Curb Hounds, 5-2
|
Benefiting from John Williams's productive game, the Indiana Lead Sox downed the Hicksville Hounds, 5-2. Williams was 2-5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Lead Sox. Ed Pearce earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 2 earned runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. Les Wright earned the save, his 4th.
The result might have been different for Indiana, had it not been for Rich Pope. The first baseman produced a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Lead Sox ahead, 3-2. For the game, Pope had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Pope told the Indiana Daily.
Indiana is now 12-15.
