Gold Sox Raise Rally Flag, Beat Eugene, 8-4
|
The Eugene Vandals got a superb performance from pitcher Tex Owens. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Chicago. The Gold Sox won the game, 8-4. In spite of the loss, Owens was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The Gold Sox now have a record of 31-49 with the win over Eugene.
The Vandals had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Gold Sox going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old third baseman Brad Dyer came to the plate. Dyer hit a 2-run double on a 1-0 fastball from Eugene hurler Virgil Gilbert. It was Dyer's 8th double of the year.
"Enjoyed this one," Dyer told the Chicago Chronicle. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
