Vandals Get Close Win Over Smokies
|
The Eugene Vandals defeated the Tennessee Smokies, 4-3, at The Riot Zone. Eugene third baseman Dave Richards was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Eugene reliever Virgil Gilbert picked up the win, upping his record to 3-4. Steve Davis took the loss. Eugene occupies 8th place in the Premier A at 28-46.
The game was all tied up in the bottom of the ninth, until Richards delivered big-time for Eugene, stroking a dramatic run-scoring double off Steve Davis. The game-changing hit put the Vandals on top, 4-3.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Richards said in reaction to the win.
