South Beach starter Robert Moody put a stranglehold on the Chicago offense. The right-hander had complete command of his forkball in leading the Blaze to a 2-1 win. Mang Zhong, credited with the save, is now 4 for 5 in save opportunities. South Beach is now 51-20, 4½ games up in the Premier A.
The Tula had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blaze going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old second baseman Duane Halfyard came to the plate. Halfyard hit a run-scoring single on a 2-2 slider from Chicago hurler Motka Vidyasov. It was Halfyard's 27th hit of the year.
Afterward, Blaze manager Vicente Rodríguez was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
