Comets Topple Blaze with Late Rally
|
The Comets had to overcome a fine performance from South Beach pitcher Carl Mayes to grab a 5-3 win at The Ballpark on the Beach. Mayes allowed no earned runs over 6.2 innings. Gypsyamber D'Souza earned the save, his 11th. Kent bumps their record to 34-33 with the win.
Kent used the clutch hitting of Alohinani Puanani to capture the win. The center fielder drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Comets the lead, 4-3. For the game, Puanani had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Puanani told the Kent Today.
