Vandals Go Down to Defeat, 7-4
|
Eugene got a terrific game from left fielder Ángel Júlio. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Rocky Mountain, 7-4. Júlio was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jim Sousa earned the win to go to 3-3. He allowed no earned runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Kenny Pollock earned the save, his 7th.
The result might have been different for Rocky Mountain, had it not been for Juan Sierra, the 24-year old second baseman . Sierra stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put Rocky Mountain up, 2-0. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"It was a solid team effort," said Sierra after the game.
Rocky Mountain has a 3-game win streak, while Eugene has lost 4 in a row.
