Washington starter José Espinosa pitched effectively against the Mancelona Torch at Torch Field. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. In 8 innings, Espinosa surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Randy Keith notched his 17th save in 18 chances.
Washington used the bat of Mario Rangel to capture the win. The first baseman jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Generals ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Espinosa told the Washington Times. "You win just by scoring more runs."
Washington bumps their record to 33-38 with the win.
