Chiefs Walk It Off for 14th Win of Season
|
Laredo got a terrific performance from pitcher Daryl Benstead, but it wasn't enough to beat the Caldwell Chiefs. Caldwell won the Pipers Ballpark contest, 4-3. Benstead was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. The winner was Gregg Booth in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Calvin Blackburn took the loss. Caldwell is 5th in the Silver A with a record of 14-13.
Kuan Pi was the walk-off hero for Caldwell. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Chiefs first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"We'll savor this win," Pi told the Caldwell Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
