Smith at His Best, Whips Hawks
The Mancelona Torch did little to support starter Mark Smith against the Laredo Hawks, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Hawks, striking out 11 and surrendering 3 hits. The performance from Smith allowed Mancelona to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said 'Mark, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Smith told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
