Mangos Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras

The Laredo Hawks got a superb performance from pitcher Jorge González. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Kingston. The Mangos won the game, 2-1. In spite of the loss, González was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. The win was credited to Willie Steele in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Eric Hurt took the loss. The Mangos have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 3rd win in 11 games.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Bob Byrd came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Laredo pitcher Eric Hurt, he hit a first pitch curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Kingston on top, 2-1.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Laredo manager Leonardo Sánchez.
