Mancelona got a terrific game from first baseman Qi-zhen Shen. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Grim, 6-4. Shen was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Grim reliever Roberto Días was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Hirokazu Morita took the loss. Grim, now 7-4, has played well in the early going.
The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the second inning, when the Reapers were trailing 1-0. Danny Warner delivered a two-out 2-run single for Grim, catapulting his team into the lead.
"It was a solid team effort," said Warner after the game.
