Hawks Prevail, 8-6, Over Kingston
|
The Laredo Hawks topped the Kingston Mangos by the score of 8-6, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Elwiin de Meij. de Meij was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Hawks. Reliever Josh Caldwell picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Gabriel García took the loss. Getting the save was Martin Rumbolt, his 3rd.
Had Neung-uk Yi not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Yi hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Hawks.
"A great game, a great day," said Yi about the win. "I can't complain."
Laredo improves to 6-4 as they look to defend their championship.
