Generals Subdue Niagara Falls, 6-4
|
Washington withstood an impressive performance by Niagara Falls first baseman Allen Harding to defeat the Expos, 6-4, at Washington Park. Harding was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 triples. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Washington reliever Del Jones picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Qing-lai Hoong took the loss. Randy Keith was called on to finish, recording his 2nd save.
Had Francisco Castro not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Castro hit a 2-run double. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Generals.
"Feels good to get the job done," Castro said after the game.
The Generals, now 2-0, have stormed out of the gates.
