Rainbow Mermaids Edge Voodoo, 3-2

The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the New Orleans Voodoo, 3-2, in United States Premier League action at The Voodoo Lounge, with Northern Virginia pitcher Ray Goolsby named player of the game. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 28 of 30 save opportunities. The 6th-place Rainbow Mermaids improved to 54-51.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Scott Kerin to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"I was a little disappointed," said New Orleans manager Chase Sims. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
