Monroeville got a terrific performance from pitcher Robert Erickson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Yucca Valley Yellows. Yucca Valley won the Ballpark of Yucca Valley contest, 4-3. Erickson was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Denny Matthews, credited with the win, is now 3-0. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Harley Hawk was called on to finish, recording his 14th save.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Truman Posner came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Monroeville pitcher Curt Howard, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Yucca Valley on top, 4-3.

"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," Posner crowed after the game.

With the win over Monroeville, the Yellows improved to 33-36.
