Mercer Island played host to Olympia at the friendly confines of Mercer Island Grounds.
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles beat the Olympia Ogres, 6-1, at Mercer Island Grounds. Mercer Island catcher Brian Drake earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Mercer Island reliever Luke Corner was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Enrique Durán took the loss for Olympia. Jacob Swanson picked up the save for Mercer Island, his 2nd of the year.
The Screaming Eagles got a big at-bat from left fielder Dima Tabakaev. For the game, Tabakaev was 1 for 3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 51st hit of the season gave Mercer Island a 2-0 lead.
"We looked pretty good up and down," said Mercer Island manager Justin Saginov.
The Screaming Eagles are now 34-24, while the Ogres fall to 21-37.
