Yellows Squelch Caterpillars Offense in Shutout Win
|
Yucca Valley left-hander Steve Walden was sensational in shutting out the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 3-0. Walden, now 3-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing no earned runs. Harley Hawk sewed up the save, his 8th.
Tied up with the Caterpillars in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Yellows got a boost from designated hitter Robinson Martínez. With a runner on 3rd, Martínez saw a 2-2 fastball from Mike Barraza and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Yucca Valley on top, 1-0.
Walden said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
The Yellows move to 15-15 with the win, while the Caterpillars drop to 16-14.
