Ogres Get One-Run Win at Springfield
|
Springfield got a terrific performance from right fielder Sherman Kline, but it wasn't enough to beat the Olympia Ogres. Olympia won the Springfield Stadium contest, 5-4. Kline was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. José Valdéz, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. His record now stands at 2-2. The Shooters fall to 8-10 and continue their wobbly start to the 2041 season.
Dave Richards was vital part of the Olympia win. He went 1 for 4. In the top of the fifth with two out, Richards hit a run-scoring single. It made the score 5-0, in favor of the Ogres.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Richards said.
