The Virginia Beach Whales got a strong performance from pitcher Ed Alexander, who stymied the St. Petersburg offense en route to a 4-2 win at Virginia Beach Grounds. Alexander got the win, improving to 9-6. He allowed 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.2 innings. Alexander allowed 2 earned runs. The Whales, at 52-50, have now won 4 straight.

In the bottom of the first, Pat Geldart hit a run-scoring double for Virginia Beach. The 16th double of the season for the Virginia Beach third baseman put the Whales on top, 1-0.
