Whales Squelch Fur Traders Offense in Shutout Win
Sylvain Richard never let the Fur Traders get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Whales to a 4-0 win. Richard got the win, improving to 3-5. He allowed 3 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. Richard allowed no earned runs. The Whales improve their record to 47-49 with the win over Tacoma.

Virginia Beach used the bat of Lloyd van Grootveld to get the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Whales ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Richard.
