Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Won-shik Yi, the Tacoma Fur Traders defeated the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-4. Yi went 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Fur Traders. José Espinosa was the winner. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. With the win, Tacoma has a record of 25-50. Virginia Beach falls to 37-38.
Tacoma used the timely hitting of Jeroen Penning to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Fur Traders on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Yi called the triumph "a good team win."
