Whales Walk Off with Win
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders got a superb performance from designated hitter Ezequiel Viana, but the Virginia Beach Whales still won the game, 8-5. Viana was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Reliever Mike Park picked up the win. His record improves to 4-1. John McNeill took the loss. The 5th-place Whales are now 37-36, the Fur Traders 23-50.
Pat Geldart, who is tied for 2nd in the SAA in home runs with 24, contributed to the Virginia Beach win with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the ninth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 runs batted in.
Geldart told a Virginia Beach Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
