The Lake Minnetonka Love Boats beat the Virginia Beach Whales, 11-7, at Heron Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Spencer Maddox, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. The winner was Rafael Martínez, who threw 108 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits. Lake Minnetonka is 36-35 and Virginia Beach, with the loss, 35-36.

Maddox contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Lake Minnetonka in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Maddox took a fastball from Sylvain Richard and stroked the triple to left. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Love Boats to leap in front, 2-1.

"Enjoyed this one," Maddox told the Lake Minnetonka Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
