Blue Sox Need Extras to Top Thunder
|
Steve Young never let the Thunder get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his curveball, to pitch the Blue Sox to a 1-0 win. Irving reliever Hank Lynn picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Benny Berry was saddled with the loss. The Blue Sox saw their record improve to 33-34.
Irving took a 1-0 lead on Rubén Plumey's 57th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Plumey hit in the bottom of the 11th, left St. Petersburg pitcher Benny Berry shaking his head.
"Our team showed some resilience," said Young.
