Bunschoten 3-4 as Thunder Hawks Squeeze Past Virginia Beach
|
Christiaan Bunschoten made an impact in the 9-8 Ft. Polk South win over Virginia Beach. Bunschoten, who is tied for 10th in the SAA in bases on balls with 23, was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Zack Coffey got the save, the 4th for him this season. At 21-28, the Thunder Hawks find themselves in 9th place in the Silver AA.
Bunschoten contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Ft. Polk South in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 5-3, Bunschoten took a sinker from Mark Taylor and stroked the home run to right-center. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Thunder Hawks to leap in front, 7-5.
Thunder Hawks manager John Anderson wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
