Victory Over Pierogis Takes Marquette to 71-30
|
Field of the Rawhides was the site of a tense game between the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Marquette Miners.
Marquette Miners starter Larry Henderson was in fine form against the Squirrel Hill Pierogis at Field of the Rawhides, leading his team to a 3-1 win. Henderson got the win, improving to 6-0. He allowed 7 hits and walked 0 over 8 innings. Henderson allowed 1 earned run. Carl Cooper was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 17 save opportunities.
Marquette used the timely hitting of Steve Chittick to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Miners on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"This was a good win for us," said Chittick. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
Marquette has an impressive 71-30 record.
