Victory Over Highlanders Takes Squirrel Hill to 56-35
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis scored a 2-1 win versus the Asheville Highlanders at Field of the Rawhides. Squirrel Hill pitcher Héctor Barrera nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Barrera, the winner, moves to 15-3. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Joel Baxter, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save.
Ron Carlisle put Squirrel Hill in front, 2-0, when he took Michael White downtown. His solo home run came with one out in the bottom of the sixth. It was his 12th home run of the season.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Squirrel Hill manager Alexander Allen said.
The Pierogis have an impressive 56-35 record.
