|
Athletic Club KC Academy got a terrific performance from pitcher Héctor Puga, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Highlanders. Asheville won the Asheville Park contest, 3-2. Puga was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The Highlanders now have a record of 52-38.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Asheville trailing 2-1, Mark Mears hit a fastball from Rick Knapp for a 2-run home run, giving the Highlanders the walk-off win.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Rich Folger.
