Rails Topple Pilgrims with Late Rally
|
Despite a great performance by Providence catcher Gilberto Ortíz, the Richland Rails defeated the Pilgrims by the score of 9-7 at Rails Ballpark. Ortíz was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Weon Kim picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Lúcio Salas took the loss. Richland is 45-44 and Providence, with the loss, 37-52.
Oscar Henson drew 1 walk in 5 plate appearances for Richland. In the bottom of the eighth, with the teams deadlocked, 7-7, Henson delivered for the Rails. His run-scoring sacrifice fly put Richland on top, 8-7.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Richland manager Fernando Mendoza.
