Chittick slugs 2 home runs, Miners Move to 58-28
|
The Marquette Miners trumped the Ottawa Nationals, 5-3, at Nationals Park. Marquette left fielder Steve Chittick was named player of the game for his performance. He slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Marquette reliever Tomás Alfonso was the winner. His record is now 7-1. The losing pitcher was Isaias Leurink. Carl Cooper recorded the save for Marquette, his 10th of the season.
Chittick had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a full count changeup from Isaias Leurink, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Miners a 5-3 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Chittick.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Chittick told the Marquette Bulletin. "But we take nothing for granted."
Marquette leads the Menard's AA by 4 games.
