Polar Bears Edge Past Highlanders, 6-5
|
The Billings Polar Bears defeated the Asheville Highlanders, 6-5. Earning player of the game honors was shortstop Wendell Palmer, who went 4-6 with 4 singles. Billings reliever Arturo Cuellar was the winner. His record is now 3-4. Ryan Long took the loss. Getting the save was Tim Shreeve, his 2nd.
Billings used the timely hitting of Rubén Balderas to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Polar Bears ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was an important one.
"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Asheville manager William Franklin.
The Highlanders, now 50-35, have lost 6 in a row.
