Pilgrims Get Close Win Over Highlanders
|
The Providence Pilgrims racked up a win at Asheville Park, bumping off the Asheville Highlanders, 2-1. John St. John, who started for Providence, pitched effectively for his team. St. John, now 2-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 0, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. At 35-46, the Pilgrims find themselves in 9th place in the Menard's AA.
One important at-bat came with a runner on 2nd in the top of the seventh inning. Facing Asheville hurler Taro Kishita, Gabriel Méndez, who leads the 3AA in home runs with 20, drew a walk. The Pilgrims went on to win.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Asheville skipper William Franklin.
