Highlanders Need Extras to Top Loons
|
The Asheville Highlanders beat the Minnesota Loons, 4-3, at Asheville Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Wendell Palmer, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Asheville reliever Ryan Long, now 1-0. The loser was John Lee. The Loons, now 26-36, have lost 4 straight.
Dusan Kontic tagged a home run off John Lee in the bottom of the tenth. His solo blast put the Highlanders on top, 4-3. In all, Kontic had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
Kontic called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
